short story long. I bought my first KLR in 1996 in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was the third bike I had owned at that point. I a college vagabond staying with some friends that summer. So i Bought the bike on a Thursday, went out of town, got back on Sunday and went out with a buddy to explore. So we were cruising around all over the place and ended up at Horestooth reservoir. There is/was a municipal motocross track there. So we were navigating that when my licence plate hit the tire and fell off. So i put it in my pocket. a few laps later i went around a corner, my front tire went over the top and i went straight down on my shoulder. i thought my helmet hit my shoulder. it hurt but not more than a good thump. i picked up my bike and rode to the parking lot. the pain was starting to intensify and my arm was getting heavier and heavier. we took off for home when a park ranger pulled me over. my plate was in my pocket, the bike was unregistered and uninsured and the ranger had no sympathy. i got 40 hrs of community service for no insurance and 17 years later my broken collar bone still sticks out and inch or so form my shoulder. so basically 3 hrs into my first real ride.
