New 08 Rider

Hey guys. Im Alan, 26 years old, and Im a new owner of an 08 turtle. I have been racing off road (enduro/hare scramble) for years. Last year I took my racing to the next level and finished 4rth overall in the pro class in a fairly prestigious series (omanationals.com) and also won the AMA Dist. 10 (kyharescramble.com) overall state championship title. I am currently leading the points in the state championship this year as well, but to make a long story short- sponsorship opportunities I had worked years for never matured so I have laid off from serious national competion due to lack of funds. Racing = $$$. Im a full time working guy so its a wonder I got that far. I love to ride bikes and race but my passion for getting an adventure style bike finally got the best of me. I have put 600 miles on her in a week and a half and haven't really been anywhere?? The handling is super on rough roads and highway alike (I wont take her on the trails though- I have a race bike for that.) I did put a Laminar lip on (im 6'1) to help out with turbulance. The only thing I would like is to be able to loft the front end a little easier. I have been riding it fairly aggressive and it is consisently getting 55 MPG so I still haven't decided if I want an aftermarket pipe. They are pricey and noisy+ I didn't buy it to be a race bike. Loud pipes just scream "HEY LOOK AT ME". I have enough trophys and recognition that Im not interested in image or street racing. I do have a soft spot for the supermoto wheel sets though, not so much because I want to fly through the corners- I like the way they look (so much for image huh) But my plans are to use the scoot for anything and everything including a long trip. I tell people that it is kind of like the swiss army knife of motorcycles. It will do a little bit of everything but isn't really specialized in anything. My other option was a V-Strom, but after spending a little time on my uncles 1000, I soon realized that being a racer, I would soon end up with no license or life. I really don't think the strom handles well in the corners (its a pig) But what a rush to keep her on the rev limiter on the stretches!!!

Wanna loft the front eaiser? Put a 14 tooth front sprocket on her. Have heard that makes a huge difference in torque and power, I went the opposite way and put a 16 tooth for better MPG, and smoother riding RPM's on the backroads. By the way, welcome to the forum and KLR madness....

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.
