Good price On 1996 KLR 650?

A guy that I work with is selling a 96 klr650 with 19k on it. It needs a monoshock. Other than that it is in good shape, and It comes with an additional set of tires. Is 500$ a fair price? I was thinking of buying a seal head and rebuilding the shock myself. also wondering if doing it myself is a good idea or not?

any advice will help.

thanks

Re-building a KLR650 shock is in the "Too Hard" box, for most of us!
