New member from Poland

Hi,

i promised myself that as soon as I'll be able to start my 1987 KLR 650, I'll register here. So yesterday, after filling it with new oil, some final touches and 15 seconds of ignition: It lives!

8 years of no use, gasoline from 2006 and it started. Seems like a heavy duty machine to me.

So now i have a working KLR 650 and say warm welcome from Poland.

It's going to be a funny adventure, never had a motorcycle, zero driving experience - but I'm sorrounded by forests so it's bound to be fun

Happy to have you aboard Esthan and hello back from Texas !!!

"Gas from 2006" worries me, I'd dump it and use fresh plus a fuel conditioner. All of the fluids should be changed after sitting for so long. Are the tires, brakes and chain in good condition?

Being a new rider take it slow and easy. Are there any training facilities near you? They are well worth the cost.

Again, glad to have you. Ride safe and feel free to check in here anytime with questions or experiences.

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.

Flash,

this fuel issue worried me as well, so tommorow I'll pick some fresh gasoline mix it with the conditioner I have and let it work it's magic.

Brakes - lever for the front was broke so I ordered a new one today. Fluid will be changed ASAP. Otherwise both seem to work - still I believe brakes are the most important part of the bike so as soon as i get the chance, I'll disassemble and check them.

Tires - mixed bag here. Those seem to have seen little to no use, but IIRC tires have a predetermined lifespan whether driven or not. Will be checking them carefully for cracks etc.

Chain - slack is according to the book. Will be oiled and checked once again.

I waited will all the work around it for spring to come, and secondly wanted to invest the overhauling time first when I'm 100% sure it works. It does

Getting it under control will take time, so as of now I plan to get some basics in starting and stopping and maneuvering on 1'st and 2'nd gear, then gradually work my way up as time goes by. All my experienced friends already warned me - ca. 47HP for first bike is dangerous so I'm cautious.

The only training facility I know of is my Brother In Law

That shouldn't be an issue Bike has got my passion gears responsible for creative writing and photographing going faster and faster so I'll share some photos and experience eventually. I know the 15 post limit and will get to it eventually - rushing into such things is never good
