Hopping in to the Community!

Hey everyone!

I'm Nick Cornell from Indiana Pennsylvania. I'm an Environmental, Health and Safety major at IUP.

I have a decent backround in riding, mostly an old CR in the dirt. Currently I have been commuting on my dad's DR650 and have been bit by the dual sport bug.

Saturday I will be picking up my first dual sport. A 2007 KLR 650 with just over 11,000 miles on it.

PREPARE FOR NOOB QUESTIONS:

Anything major I should look for when picking it up?

Does a slip on muffler REQUIRE a carb jetting on these bikes?

Whats the average MPG while cruising at 55 on the road with 50/50 tires?

What Oil do most of you use?

I can't not tinker with things, so I plan to paint the old plastics. I've heard pretty good things from Krylon Fusion, any input would be awesome.

Thanks guys!

Average MPG will be in the 50 - 60 MPG range.

As to the oil question please use the forum search feature. There are numerous discussions about oil. Personally I use Shell Rotella 15-40.

LOL..."Hopping." Does that refer to the "thumper" motor or one-footed hopping as short-legged riders like I have to do when stopping?
