What to look out for with a used KLR?

Heys guys I'm a new motorcyclist and looking for a used KLR. I found two today one has 11k miles '05, the other 17k '03. Are there any things I should check for that would indicate trouble?

Ask the owner if the Cam chain tensioner aka: "doohickey", has been changed out. If the clutch and kickstand safeties don't work correct, they can be by-passed, my suggestion for them anyway. Other than that, make sure the fork seals aren't leaking, no biggie, just means you gotta get em fixed. Ride em, they should have plenty of power, without hesitation, or missing.

Check this site out. It might help you with issues to watch for.

What are the asking prices for each?

2008 DL650 VStrom Yellow and Black
Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Asking price

For the ' 05 with 11k, they are asking 3200, and for the '03 with 17k they are asking 2800. Both of which I think is okay. Is that about right? I have my eye on the '03. It is dark green and was owned by an older guy and looks like it was well taken care of. Its been to Florida twice from StL.

The KLR didn't have many changes from 97 to 07 so both bikes are almost the same, except the color.
The price seems to be fair, I would try to talk them down myself. KLR s are pretty much bullit proof after the doohickey has been changed, (if they are taken care of) so I would look for maintance recodrs if possible.

And welcome to the forum....
