Feel free to wander around and ask as many questions as you can come up with.

As a former KDX200 Enduro/Hare Scramble rider, and also a long time sport touring rider, I think it'd be great to have you pass on what you've done and also what you're looking into doing!!

Welcome to the forum...

You will find many of your questions already answered in the archives, if you have any not answered just ask, someone will have the answer, or a good lie to tell you.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Thanks for the welcome! I`m 65 and rode my 1st bike at 15. At 24 I bought a Triumph 500,converted it to offroad, and continued riding offroad to present. The list of bikes include: Greeves,Husqvarna,Montesa,BSA Goldstar,Yamaha,Honda. In 2000 I bought my first`streetbike`XR650L`Honda,shortly thereafter an Aprilia Pegaso. We rode these 2-up. We prefer extended rides (overnight, etc.) and deciding we wanted more comforts we bought our first ST1100. I have owned 4 of these and have logged more than 100k miles. My wife also rides her own bike these days a Honda VFR. We have shipped our bikes to Md.and rode to New England and home to California. Our most recent trip this past Sept/Oct. We traveled 5600 miles/14 states/30 days. Our next long road trip will be next spring to Tennessee/W.Virginia,and vicinity. Nuff said!
I`m interested in how the KLR holds up to light offroad use, maintenance intervals, crankcase oil capacity, etc. Sorry if I`m asking redundant questions.

Light off road use is perfect for the KLR. 95% of it is rider, anyway..
Maintenance?? I change oil every 2K and adjust valves every 10K. Simple motor that's really only issue being the "doohickey" from the factory. Once that's addressed, it's not an issue. Not addressing it is taking a slight risk.

Oil? We gotta oil them? I think it's 2.8 quarts, or something like that.. 2500ml area.

It's not a light bike, but I've ridden mine offroad on pretty street oriented tires and it's fine. A set of 50/50 tires and you can pretty much go anywhere you wish.

Check this site out for doohickey issue and then the other site is outstanding with pics to see how to change it out. Not very hard to do.
