Hi from Ozzie - new to the KLR

Hi all,

Been on the forum for a couple of weeks since I am now the proud owner of a 2012 KLR called Kev with 26,000 Kms on him. I live in Brisbane, Australia but am a Kiwi (very important distinction).

Been riding road bikes on and off for many years and since moving to Australia from NZ 10 years ago have been on a FJR1300 (which I still have). Enjoyed riding my FJR right around Australia and have completed a few Iron Butt 1000 milers on him and now looking to do more exploring of the dirty side of Oz.

Complete novice when it comes to riding off road so trying to skill up as much as I can from the interweb and by actually doing it - trying to find a suitable course to go on as well.

Really found the forum helpful in many ways as I bring Kev up to a baseline with his maintenance - I love the simplicity of the KLR.

Thanks all for the great forum !

Stu

Hi Forum.
Art here from the east side of Pennsylvania - Upper Bucks County. I have always had at least one motorcycle in my possession since '74, but always street bikes. However, I love a bargain. I picked up a low mileage (2100 miles!) '09 KLR 650 about 2 years ago to commute with & for exploring the back roads around this area. There are still some dirt / gravel roads that are probably pretty much what they were when Washington crossed the Delaware. I hope to try part of the "Mid-Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route" sometime this summer.
The KLR is basically stock except for Tusk Pannier racks with Harbor Freight cases. I'm currently running Shinko 705's. I guess I'll have to "doo the doo", and a valve adjustment before spring.

Current motorcycles:
'09 KLR 650 in Red
'00 Buell S3T
'11 250 Ninja
'77 BMW R100S (needs some love)
'63 / '64 Norton Atlas (actually boxes of parts to make one)

Ride safe!

Hello group 😁 After 10 years on my FZ6 (which I thoroughly loved) I decided to go the adventure route as I was finding myself staring down numerous fire roads and trails with my street bike cowering in fear. I found a 2004 KLR in decent shape and bought it as a spring project. Already runs good and I took it out for a couple rides, doesn't really need anything aside from a new battery. However, I'm going to rejuvenate it a bit. It already has a couple upgrades like engine guards, endura pegs, the doohickey, rad guard, and a nice exhaust cover... I'm adding a taller windshield, top case, headlight grille, thermobob, and a small dash kit, and will repaint the plastics and engine guard. Should be fun, I'll probably be asking a few questions on here!

Welcome to the forum, Gerrrie. We had a very active member from your country a few years ago, @Dualthing Click on his highlighted name to find his many ride reports and pics that I/we used to enjoy.
