New Owner

Hi all, Frank from Jacksonville FL! Just (@ 430 pm) bought a new white KLR 650 2014 NE. I've got a lot to learn and hope to learn a lot. I'm a brand new rider and after sitting on everything else, nothing felt as cozy as the KLR. I sat on the F650GS (too short), VSTROM, was more than I wanted to spend and didn't know if I should have all that power, NC700X was comfortable and the DCT with ABS could work, but it would have put me near the 10,000 dollar range. Sat on some scooters Burgmans (400-650), nice, but since I plan on riding ATGATT, I just don't know how it would look on a scooter, in addition, it was big and more expensive than the KLR. Sure, they kept talking about storage, but I figured I could add the storage when I needed it, and take it off when I didn't. I'm just looking for some fun. No immediate plans to commute, but who knows! Might just use it for going back and forth to Publix and the beach!

Smile New to Adventure Riding as well

Frank, First welcome. I live in St. Petersburg Florida. I think you will fall in love with your new KLR, they are dependable, easy to ride, quirky sometimes and some call them the Jeep of the motorcycle world. I have ridden sport bikes (CBRs and GSX-Rs) and Motocross (CRF250s and 450.) Now that I am in my 40's the Avdenture motorcycle world really attracts me.

I have a 2013 Black KLR and have put on many farkles that many here on this forum have recomended; Happy Trails center stand, crash bars, skid plate and pannier racks, bark buster hand guards and a zero gravity double bubble wind screen.

Any way welcome and don't hesitate to ask questions - there is a super duper pile of info available here.

Welcome to the venue, Frank! I ride a black '09 KLR650 and live in Indianapolis. You came to the right place for all things KLR related. I've had my bike for a little over a month and I love it! I look forward to hearing more from you! As a long time rider the one piece of advice I would give to a beginner is DON'T BE A SQUID RIDER! Get yourself appropriate riding gear and wear it! A good helmet, boots, jacket, and gloves. Over 70% of accidents are from riders with less than 8 months riding experience. Assume everyone on the road is an idiot and keep your eyes open. I would highly recommend you take the ABATE course if you haven't already. Have fun and enjoy that new bike!
