Hello New guy From Pittsburgh.Pa

Hi I just joined I getting a 1988 KLR 600 with 3,000 miles tomorrow if every thing goes good. he is asking $600 OBO I will see when I really get to see the bike in person. he said it runs but dies out after running a min or two Sounds like carb problem I hope? This seem like a nice big thumper to fool with this summer I want to get back in to riding after many years away from it. Im a semi disabled Vietnam Veteran and am pretty handy with the wrenches and this bike fits my budget so i will keep you all posted if I get it! You dont think a 1988 is too old do you as far as getting parts etc? I hope to lear about this bike on this board so share any tps you might have, Thanks #1 Moses

1987-2007 are the same bikes, so parts should be no issue..

If it's running and then dies, it's more than likely jets that are plugged, and with a bike that's 20 years old and only 3000 miles on it, it makes perfect sense why they'd be plugged.

Snag it for the least that you can, and do a bit of work on it.. The worst that could happen is that you part it out and make money on it..

If it's running, and just for a bit, tune'r up and ride it!!

And Welcome!!!

Welcome to the forum and KLR madness...
Here is a link that will give you some much needed mechanical mods and how to do them. First and foremost do the Doohickey, then the clutch kickstand safety bypasses then the Carb T mod. After that it is just all fun and farckling for 'your' purposes and style of riding. Looking forward to pics and updates. And also, thank you for your Service to us and our country, it is greatly appreciated.

2008 DL650 VStrom Yellow and Black
Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.
