Red '08 North Texas

Had it for just over a month now. 1064 miles. Absolutely love this bike. Wheelies again!!!! I do the better part of my riding on the street but love to take the backroads that are dirt / gravel around here just to explore. The last bike I had was the Magna. Hated it and its cruising style. Turned me off for a good while. Now that I have the KLR it's all want to do is ride! Love it. Wish I still had the Z-1 though. Plan on doing the Talamena drive this weekend in OK.

Glad to be a part of this group! If there are any other riders in the North Texas area please let me know of any other good rides here. Sure am looking close at the Continental Divide ride. Any others?

Guess I'm giving my age away by the list of past bikes in the sig, eh?
Thanks, Larry

Texas Rider

Welcome to the forum. My name is Chuck and I live out west in Midland, Texas. I'm Starting to see more and more Texans getting the KLR bug. If you get out this way, drop me a line. Maybe we can find some interesting riding out here.

Chuck, thanks for the invite! Get out your way quite a bit. Work for an outfit called Nortex Field Services. Keeps me on the road in the oil and gas industry. Done a lot at the Huntsman plant in Odessa, various customers in Crane, Goldsmith, Andrews, Jal, Eunice, McCamey and of course Iraan. Wonder if the boss would get POed if I loaded up the KLR in the trailer. Ha!
Going to the North Slope week after next. Fly from DFW to Anchorage for safety school. Then to Deadhorse on a company 737. Then drive to an outpost called Milne Point. Be there at least two weeks. Will miss a lot of good ride time :-(

My KLR and I joined today from Abilene

Looking for day and weekend riders. I don't mind driving a few hours to get to the ride.

hey, flash..
I'm absolutely new here... so new, actually, I don't even have my bike yet. I'm pickin it up in Austin this weekend. It's a red (of course) 08, and will be my first bike in about 19 years or so.
I also have a buddy that bought a red 08 about 2 weeks ago.. had 38 miles on it.

We're both in Allen. I don't know if he is gonna want to do any rides, but I'm hoping to get out some on weekends. This bike will be my daily commuter, if all goes according to plan. I'm not much of an off roader, but I can learn.

I'm psyched.. can't wait to get it. We're gonna go float the river with our grown kids (my first time, and, yes, I'm a native Texan...go figure). While we're down there, I'm picking up the bike from the original owner.
I'll post pics after I get back.

Yee-haw!! (that's Texan for "this is TOO COOL" )

I got the KLR this weekend and rode it back to Allen from Austin. I think it's going to be a keeper. It's an absolute hoot to ride, and was getting around 55 mpg coming back.. including a lot of idling time due to a fatality accident ahead of us... slowed us down by about 2.5 hrs.

anyway, this is me sitting on the bike in the parking lot in Austin.

I'm pleased.
