after 40 yrs of riding I tried a KLR...

Hi all,
bought a 98 klr last spring to be a commuter/explorer/fishing bike. been riding a 1977 BMW R100S since May '77. BMW has been a daily rider for all these years and I decided to save it for sunny sundays and 2 up touring...

I have put about 3000 miles on so far but found that a small rut can be very unfriendly to heavy dirt I'm now in wk 3 of collarbone repair...wife says I need to find other riders to ride with when miles into the if you are in the greater Bangor, Me. area I'll be ready to ride in about another week. If you are passing thru northern/eastern maine contact me for the roads less traveled..

How's your collarbone? That musta hurt draggin' yourself home. My wife said the same thing about riding trails alone but it's called risk management. I wear a helmet.

I don't get to ME much. I'm on the west end of the US, Port Angeles,WA

collarbone recovery..

I started riding again last week after a 5 week wait. My First gear Kili 4.0 feels abit heavy on the broke side but the bones are fused and its just getting the muscles all working happily again...I have a '77 BMW R100S with short handlebars which still irritates a little.. tried riding it this weekend but turned back after about 15 miles of back roads...
I'm feeling more relaxed this week. Last week I was keenly aware as I rode that if something happened I'd break again so I'm riding that feeling away...

Great to hear you're on the mend!!
I had a 78' R100S and it's one of the few bikes I really regret that I ever sold. I traded it and a 1985 K100RS off on a new GS back in 1992, and I wish I'd have kept the R100S..

I don't get to ride while in Maine, since I'm usually out there working on paper machines, but I hope to do a ride in Maine, Vermont, and up into Nova Scotia next summer..
