Hello from Texas. I'm a 52 year old 2 time KLR owner. I put 12,000 miles on an '06, then swapped it in on a '08 in June of '07, which now has over 18,000 miles on it. The KLR brought me back to riding after a 15 year absence.
The '08 changes I've made include brush chains, aluminum skid pan, diode pair and electronic flasher for LED turn signals, LED tail light and instrument lights, power plug for a CyclePump, 1 inch handlebar risers, center stand, 15/45 gearing, and sound insulation inside the fairing. This bike has been absolutely trouble free. It uses no oil at all, gets 57-61 mpg, and is glass smooth at 70 mph. I commute daily and love to travel the back roads and trails on it.
