Hello from Tennessee

Hi folks, I just picked up a 2007 KLR650 and decided to learn more about this thing before the Springtime riding begins. I have been shopping for one of these for a couple of years but they hold their value very well and I could not find a decent one in my range. Finally found this one with under 21,000 miles for $1000. It needs a battery, the front brake (which is upgraded/oversized) doesn't work and the choke lever is missing its bolt but it test-rode just fine and so seems like a good deal.
It's cold and snowy here so I just pushed it into my shop for now but am looking forward to going over it from top to bottom before I begin to put some miles on it.
I began racing motocross in 1975 but have never owned a street-legal bike before. My plans for this bike are to explore the back roads of rural Tennessee with my Wife on back.

Welcome "freds4",
Lots of informative reading to be had on this forum.
And some pretty good videos of proper procedures also, by "souperdoo", aka Tom Schmitz. As well as others.

Modify at "YOUR OWN RISK"!

Still riding my 1987 KL650-A1. 85,000+ miles & counting

My wife did ride on the back. It didn't last long. She was used to riding on the back of my Goldwing. The rocks, hills, ditches, mud holes and gravel, convinced her she wanted off. LOL! She wanted to ride her own bike. Started her on a XT225 6 years ago. Now she's on a CB300F and a very good rider. It was nice to have her on the Goldwing but I can't say I miss her much when on the KLR.

NOTE: No need to forward this to her NORM!
