Just yesterday (Saturday) I joined the KLR family with a purchase of a 2012 KLR 650 from a gentleman who rode the bike sparingly and was virtually brand-new with only 180 miles.
I'm excited to be on a KLR and to be here on the forum, and I look forward to reading everyone's input on this awesome bike platform. Cheers!
Houston is indeed a concrete jungle though the Sam Houston National Forest is north of Spring by about 40 miles and from what I understand, there are some nice and non-technical backcountry opportunities there. Additionally, as you start heading towards the hill country (approx. 2-2.5 hours away) the backroad and off-pavement opportunities really open up.
You're in Canada, correct? I'd love to get up there and do some adventure riding etc.
The concrete jungle has it's lil' moments too. Parking blocks and curbs no
longer exist. For stop n' go traffic these things are powerful fun and jump forward
(and up) in the first two gears. You'll start to know which back alleys become shortcuts,
a railroad bed running thru town is a chance to blast over a few blocks and back onto
the streets, etc. They park anywhere a bicycle or moped can fit.
(rr beds will require a skidplate as the knobs love to toss up those big rocks.)
Have fun no matter where the front wheel leads ya,
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap
Welcome to the world of the Jeep Wrangler of Motorcycles. You can find bits everywhere and flavor just like you like it. Not the fastest, nor the most comfy, or the most practical. Not the best handling, braking or acceleration, nor the best looking. But it is the best of ALL worlds. Enjoy... Cause I have.
