Hi everyone. I'm Rick from Arizona and this is my first KLR. I picked up a green 2016 on March 16th. Had to ride it 200 miles home from the dealership on mostly highway/freeway. Was very careful not to exceed 4000rpm and to vary the rpm's while at the same time not getting ran over! I did stop and let it cool about 3 times during the ride. Changed the oil and filter as soon as I got it home. I'm looking forward to learning a lot about this bike from everyone here!

LOL! I had the same problem. I traded in a CB1000R for my KLR and felt the same way on break in. I was like, "OMG I'm gonna get run over." Then it made me wonder in general about the power. Amazingly though, these bikes really pick up from 4-5.5k. Doesn't seem like a lot of rpm range, but the bike really wakes up. I say 5.5k because I haven't really felt the need to bring it to 6. All in all, I had a powerful bike, but this one makes me smile so much more....Especially when I'm wondering about and see an unfamiliar dirt road. Welcome to the forum.
