Talking Hello from Waterloo, Iowa

Ok, I looked at the 2008 model KLR last year but decided to get a Yamaha V-Star instead. This tax rebate was used to purchase a brand new 2009 KLR. It's the sexy red color. I just took delivery of it yesterday and was very excited. Today the bike refused to start even though I used full choke and it was over 35 degrees farenheit. It turned over nicely but only backfired through the exhaust a couple of times. It's going back to the stealership on tuesday because I just didn't feel like throwing the bike on the trailer by my self today. I was pretty excited yesterday but today I'm pretty upset. If it's something simple I'll kick my own butt.

Welcome aboard Dan. My buddies 08 was real bad for not wanting to start either. I finally talked him into letting me pop out the air mixture screw block-off and opened the needle 2 1/4 turns. No longer has problems starting. Now obviously this isn't the only thing that could keep it from starting, but it helped his tremendously. Also the .22 cent mod would help a lot for better fuel delivery in the mid range circuit. Keep us posted on how things come out.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

lol, I'll let the stealer work on it. I don't want to touch it to much untill the waranty is up. I paid cash for a running bike and I want exactly that. My V-star started right up without thinking at all. It has been sitting out in the garage all winter and i didn't even bother trying to start it untill today. I almost crapped my pants when it fired off just like that. It's just upsetting because now I have three bikes and two of them don't run. The other non-running bike is a 1973 Suzuki TS250 that I got to work on during the spring.

Can't argue that logic!! Part of the money you paid for the bike was warranty, and making the dealer get it right will also document the issue.

I've got a good buddy in Elk Run Heights who rides an '02 Green and Yellow KLR.. If you're interested, I'll pm you his email address and you can show him how to ride..
