Q: Front tire size, headlight level adjustment, hand pump?

Hi, guys.
I've looked over the forum Q and As and can't find answers to the following.

When off roading with KLR, the big problem with control seems to be the small width of the front tire, considering the weight of the KLR and the soft sand that we have here in CA OHV areas. Does anyone use a wider tire on the front?

My headlight beam is too high, and cars flash me to tell me so. The small owner's manual says have the dealer adjust it. Yeah, right. Any directions on how to do this? I could figure it out but could save time if someone else has done it.

When I go off road serious, I deflate the tires to 18 pounds or abouts. Then at home, 20 miles later, I just pump the tires up with a large bicycle hand pump. Does anyone know of a hand pump that works good that is small enough to carry with them on their KLR? Someday I'll get a 12v lighter thing but no time right now.

headlite aiming

Greg, the headlite adjusters are on the back ot the headlite shell, kinda in front of the instruments. 10mm hex w/#3 phillips slots too. I use a 10mm wrench.
I remove the air deflector and the front fender to acces mine from underneath the headlite. Trying to get at them from behind the fairing is very difficult.
One seems to affects height (vertical) and the other affects lateral aim (horizontal).

good luck

headlite adjustment

Greg, that is me getting air on my ktm400 exc. has a tag on it.
To get that high on a klr you would be required to file a flight plan with the FAA.
I have had the klr in the air a time or two but only small.

My klr hdlt was aimed too low from the dealer. I looked in the owners manual for help, and it referred me to a dealer.
I found the adjusters myself, and re-aimed it. At first I thought the two adjusters were for the hi beam and low beam independently. Later I discovered one was hgt, the other is horizontal, sorry I don't remember which is which.
I put the bike on a stand to set it level, turned on the lights, taped a mark on the wall and started turning the screws until I saw the beam moving.
