Greeting's from Texas
Time to do the intro. First off let me state I am not a KLR rider, but would like to be. I do ride a Kawasaki, a 1996 Voyager XII. It has 66K miles on the clock. We bought it with 5600 mile in 2000.
I really want to get into DS riding and I am looking at the KLR650 as way to do that. I am 60 years and have been riding since my teens. I 5'2" tall with a 28" inseam. Some would say that the KLR is too tall for me. I sat on friends '08 that had the seat really cutdown, and was able to get the balls of my feet down. That is about the same as my Voyager, it is wider and heavier. I have another friend that has the 2" lowering links on his that has promised me a ride.
Right now my biggest stumbling block is my lovely wife, who rides her own bike. She has a 2005 Yamaha 1100 Vstar Classic. I am trying to convince her that DS riding is something we want to do. She is also 60 and is 5' tall with a inseam shorter than mine. She sat on a friends Yamaha TW200 the other day and could not touch very well. We also have a friend with a Super Sherpa that I want her to try. I know that lowering links are available for both of these bikes.
We don't plan on any real radical off road stuff. Just gravel back roads and some trails. I am using our other pastime of Geo-caching to convince her that DS is the way to go. That we would be able to access more caches with a couple of DS bikes that we can with our touring bikes. We may also want to do some DS touring and camping we have light tent an camping gear that we use with our touring bikes. We also have a Bunk House camper trailer I pull behind the Voyager.
I hope to learn alot about DS bikes from this board. Sorry for the long boring post. I will try to get my profile done here soon, and get avatar up.
