I’m brand new too. I get my 2018 tomorrow! I’m reading about all the shortcomings of this bike and what items to address first. For me the “ too long kickstand” is top priority. If the rear shock is set soft or bike is loaded with gear the thing can fall over!! I’m probably going to cut an inch off mine. If I were you I’d do my first oil change too and there’s the first valve check (500-1000) miles, loose bolts to check for and decide if I want the 16 tooth sprocket I’ve been reading about KLR 650’s every night for HOURS for weeks!! Lol. Lots of information. No surprises! Is it the matte grey or camo?

Correction to the above, First valve check per the owners manual is 15,000 miles.

Correct.....but since they changed nothing in the valve train from 1987 to present and the Gen1's had a 600 mile initial check followed by 6,000 mile interval for valve checks, many knowledgeable people have opined that the 15,000 mile Gen2 manual recommendation has alot more to do with marketing than engineering.
