I'm a newb!

Hello everyone! I just bought a 2011 KLR yesterday with 886 miles on it! It is completely stock and I was wondering what brands of crash guard, skid plate, and any other protection I might need that is great quality at a reasonable price.
This is my first KLR (or adventure bike, for that matter) and I am really looking forward to taking it on some trails. It is going to be for commuting, as well. Is there a good site or place that you might recommend to find someone/some group that I could ride with to show me around? I'm currently living in Las Vegas. Thanks for your time!

I have the MoTech Crash Bars on mine and have "field tested" them more than once.

I can speak from first hand, personal experience . . . . they work extremely well.

I'll endorse the Ricochet and Happy Trails skidplates. I install rubber 'donut holes' between the frame & skidplates to quiet them a bit. This also gives a little more oil drain plug protection/clearance.

For sure get side bar protection on it as soon as you can. The day we brought mine home, my son dropped it on the left side and bent the radiator mounts. It was more a lay down than drop. Didn’t take much. The mounts are easily bent back but it involved pulling the radiator to do. Sort of a pain, especially when ya don’t want to.

My son dropped my Goldwing. Someday when I'm really old and he has to take care of me, I'm going to poo in the bed. Paybacks are a beach.
