Not Another KLR youtube Channel

Hi everyone!

My name is Kyle, or TheOtherSoup(long story), and I’ve been thinking about starting yet another youtube channel and forum posts dedicated to the KLR 650. Now if I haven’t lost your interest yet, I have some ideas to make things a little different. For my channel I want to create an interactive set up where you guys can vote on what you want to see and directly ask any questions you might have. I want to be able to test different products and build different custom projects with the intention of showing you guys unbiased reviews and some of the crazy things you can build when you put your mind to it, even by an amateur like me. I have a 2017 KLR that has some custom parts, as well as some aftermarket, and I have access to a 2003 KLR that is heavily used and lightly modified, and I can make videos with both.

Now to be honest I will need some help. I am thinking about creating a GoFundMe or similar donation set up, with separate goals for different products you would like to see and in that way you can vote on what you want to see! Also, to give back to the people who help out I will give any product(slightly used) that is bought with donations to the highest bidder or to someone based on a lottery depending on what you guys think is more fair.

I really just want to be able to show you some custom welding work, new and old products, some jerry-rigged mods, and some how-to videos to explain some common problems that people have in the most interactive way possible. If you guys want something like this please let me know and I will put out a video on some of the custom mods I have done so far(including a very heavily modified set of Dirt Racks full body crash bars) and I will set up a donation account so you the viewer can decide what you want to see!

If I understand this right, you want us to pay you to make videos about KLR stuff.

Most of the people (I'd say all but that's an absolute) who have KLR-related YT channels make the videos and don't expect anything in return. In fact, they pour a lot of time and effort into the process expecting nothing in return except the pleasure of doing it.

I've even heard of some guy who has a website that is entirely self-funded, again with a lot of effort put into it (although he picks the topics and writes about the stuff he thinks about), and no pay-off is expected.

Perhaps you should begin with that long story and tell us who you are that we should pay you to hear you talk about KLRs.

Oh sorry that wasn’t what I had intended. I didn’t mean to give the impression that I was going to be paid by any of of the donations. I meant that any donations would be put towards getting different products that would then be raffled off. The reason for this is because no one can afford to buy 3-4 sets of handlebars just to review them and then give them away. With my idea more products would be able to be reviewed all in one place and everyone would have the chance to win one after the video is made.

OK, but who are you? What are your qualifications that warrant people sending you money to review stuff? Do you have a lot of experience with motorcycles and motorcycle accessories? I don't find a YT channel under your screen name. Is there one and have you posted up some videos on how-tos and mods? Do you already have some sort of following? Can we see what sort of videos you make?

There are quite a few YT channels that have excellent tutorials and mods videos. How will yours be different or better, such that asking for money so that you can review things will receive a positive response?

The way it works is you produce some videos of what you already have. If they are good they get a LOT of views. Produce companies see you have a TON of views and they send you stuff directly. There are whole armies of marketing people scouring youtube and social media looking for people that get a lot of views just so they can send them stuff to review.

Make a few videos and post them here and we can help you refine them. I've noticed the good channels have good video and good audio and a solid format. What kind of equipment and software do you have for production?

Hey here's the one that sold my sporty!

Well, it worked!

You bought the bike!

Featuring Hillary and Billary would NOT be a persuasive component in any advertisement (including one for cold water in the Sahara) for me, but . . . as mentioned, it worked!

I wouldn’t pay anything to do video reviews on any products. There are enough videos (for me) on YouTube already, and most products have pretty good personal experience reviews somewhere online already. Google is my friend.

The idea of then raffling off the part has merit I suppose, but I’m too tight with money to pay out anything, and I’ve already added or modded my KLR with most everything I’m going to.

I sold the bike. You didn't get the aged Bill and Hillary? Thought that was brilliant.

I have a welding school, 40 years of turning metal into things and a slightly modified KLR if you want any pointers.
