Returned to the KLR fold

I have returned. Joined up in 2010, riding a 2006 red/silver KLR. That bike was my return to riding after a bad wreck in 2007 that kept me off a bike for 18 months. I bought it to ride where the cars didn't go. I loved it.
Then I took a 4 day trip from my home in Helena to Glacier National Park with my 12 year old Daughter on back. We found that the KLR was not intended to ride 2 up for long periods of time. She abandoned me for Moms minivan.
Next year I had to take my youngest daughter on the same ride, fair is fair, so I picked up a 1985 Yamaha Venture Royal. Much better.
Now I had 2 bikes, and wanted to get back to one, so I got a VSTROM 1000, and sold the others.
But I missed the KLR. Found an old DR650, kick starter. Got it cheap and had fun in the dirt again. Back to two bikes.
Along the way I became a certified MSF Rider Coach, and taught for two summers. Great gig and wonderful people.
Now last spring I ended up with trouble in my spine. Almost paralyzed. Can't ride or teach. I have had surgery and am healing. So I decided to go back to one bike. Sold the Suzuki 650, because kick starter is not an option for me anymore.
Traded the VStrom straight up for, a 2006 KLR red/silver! I have returned!
Still can't ride it yet, but I am on the mend and determined. Hope to be able to ride in the Spring. Ciao.

Ya' need to speak-up every now & then. Silence is not necessarily golden, all the time.

Thanks for the welcome. I have always enjoyed the cameraderie of riders. There is a special bond with no expectations for more than mutual fun. The motto "ride your own ride" sums it up.

Welcome to the forum, the KLR is a very comfortable bike to ride. I had 12 plates put in my neck 2 years ago and the KlR was my go-to bike for a long time. Slowly sold off all my sportbikes because they were too painful to ride. Good luck with the rehab and your new bike.

Welcome back and hope you are on the mend.

The whole back pain thing is a serious issue for those injuries. I truly wish you the best in healing.

Thanks for the understanding. This is serious, but I am determined to get back, when the time is right. I have a desire to ride again for a long time. And I would like to teach MSF again. It's possible. Last year I rode in Baja, and taught MSF. I'm a tough old buzzard.

My experience: THERAPY, and TIME, heal greatly!

It's possible to improve, DAILY, just a little bit.

Hope you're, "Back In The Saddle Again," (apologies to Gene Autry) very soon!
