New to KLR650

Hello Guys. I am new to the KLR650 world and just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been riding motorcycles since I was 8 (many years ago) and have owned over 20 bikes (both on and off-road), but have never owned a KLR650 before last Friday. I have read many things about the KLR including accounts of adventures far and wide and have always wanted to have one in my stable. I have watched a ton of Youtube videos on the KLR650 with reviews, upgrades, motovlogs and issues/fixes. The one thing I have noticed is that there is a huge group of KLR fans around the world and even though 2018 was the last production year for this model, it will live on for many years to come. I live in central Indiana and could not find a reasonably priced KLR650 for sale in my area, so I ended up purchasing a 2009 KLR650 from a used bike dealer in Wisconsin. The bike is a little rough (a fair amount of trail rash on the plastics), but in overall good mechanical condition. I plan on doing a few upgrades and look forward to sharing my experiences with the members of this Forum.

Welcome to the forum and hoping that you get to ride your KLR at least a little before winter really sets in!

Check your engine oil Every chance you get, until you get to know its appetite for oil.

When one actually does the doo, one needs to Follow the O:Clock position of the 1/16th inch hole Printed on the Torsion Spring package. Not the video position.

Thanks Guys. I'm going to start off going through all of the maintenance items first, replace the doohickey (if needed) and then see about doing a seat upgrade with a 1" lower seat (Seat Concepts Low?). Lots of other mods/upgrades to consider, but I need to pace myself. The neat thing about the KLR is that it has been around for over 30 years and there are a ton of aftermarket items available. From what I have heard, it is supposed to be a long cold winter in Indiana so I will have plenty of time to get this ready for riding season next year.
