Hello From PA, hoping to have a KLR soon

Hello All! Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am not a KLR owner yet, but I plan to be within the next week or so. I am going to look at an 09 and 13 KLR on Monday, i would go sooner, but we are going away for the holiday weekend, and neither of the fellas are available until then to show them.

I this bike has me very excited with how versatile it claims to be. I have owned quite a few bikes over the years, and currently have a yamaha fj-09 that I use for commuting and traveling, and I just sold my xr250r dual sport in light of reading about these KLR's. I use my FJ09 to haul my mountain bike with me to go riding with a 2x2 cycles rack, and while that works greats with my side bags attached, there are times that I need to get on some back roads and fire roads to get to the trail head, and while the FJ will handle it, its not the best at it, and im always scared of oil pan and its ground clearance. I think the KLR will fit the bill to load up the mountain bike, some gear, and head out for the day or weekend for a total 2 wheel adventure. Really hoping to make some great memories on this bike.

Any comments, suggestions or words of wisdom/things to look for when I am checking out these bikes would be greatly appreciated. Cant wait to be part of this community when a KLR is offically in my garage!

Welcome to the forum & I suggest that you read this before even looking at the 2 used bikes. https://www.klrforum.com/introductio...kes-avoid.html

Maybe print it and take it with you to help guide your eyes & questions about the used bikes.

If you find convincing evidence the '09 is NOT an oil burner, might be a prospect, IMHO. Otherwise, if Generation 2s appeal to you, you might look for a '14-1/2 or newer, models with improved seat and suspension., the latter of interest if loaded down with mountain bike, etc.
