Bevel the ends of the pipes. Align the Sharpie or Scribe marks and lightly clamp them together with welding pliers or Vise-Grips. And then hand the stand to my friendly welder.

The welder makes 2 spot welds, removes the pliers and then encircles the joint with a bead of weld. Perfect alignment every time. And have never had one break the weld, yet.
It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who doesn't have welding skills.

Just my two cents:
I'm 6' tall, 34" inseam and have absolutely no problem throwing my leg over the saddle when standing on the ground. But why? It is SOOO much easier to "saddle-up" horsey-style; left foot on the peg and throw your right leg over by whatever means are the easiest for you. In my experience, there are very few instances that where your bike become unstable. Hold your front brake if you want a little more stability.

That kickstand looks awesome excellent work there. Shelly i feel you pain as far as finding adv riders. The guys I ride with have cruisers or sport bikes. Even my son has a ninja. I don’t try to keep up or ride like they do. In any case it’s always nice to get out for a ride. Really hope that kickstand makes things easier for your mount and dismount. When I first picked up my klr some kind people here told me how mount and dismount. Folks here are great and especially awesome with any advice or help

I am so sorry, tried saving a couple of bucks (insert cheap KLR owner jokes here) and the kickstand appears to be on he slowest truck to Shelly.

Can't believe hat it took four days to get to LA. And now with the flooding back there, who knows where it will go.
