digging a hole

There were two men working for the city council; one would dig a hole, the other would follow behind him and fill it in.

They worked furiously all day without rest, one man digging a hole, the other man filling it in again.

An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn’t understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger; “I appreciate the effort you’re putting into your work, but what’s the story? You dig a hole and your partner follows behind and fills it up again.” The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed; “Well, normally we’re a three-man team, but the guy who plants the trees is sick today.”

I install fire alarm systems for a living. When working on a union site one time the general contractor wanted an area installed and tested out. When we observed that the area was not painted yet we assumed the general was aware of this. So we hung the devices and tested the area out. That evening the painters came in and sprayed over about 100 devices. Needless to say the general was not happy. Nothing happed to he painters though. That is how the union operates I guess. Someone ended up buying another 100 devices from us and paying us to replace them.
