Help help help

I recently purchased a 1991 Kawasaki Tengai 650. The bike is in really good condition for all of its 21k miles. The speedo stopped working and it turns out to be the gear system that is part of the hub??? Aparrently it needs a new Hub or preferably (as the spokes are rusting) a whole new wheel. I have been quoted £500 for just the front wheel. I only paid £800 for the bike. Does anyone know of another wheel that will fit this bike or where I can get a second hand one (IN THE UK). Any help regarding this matter, repairs, fix-its or bodge-its would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am new to this bike so any info regarding other nightmare scenario's also welcomed.
Dodge.

Dodge,
I would think that any KLR wheel from 1987 through today will work.

Guys??? Am I guessing correctly??

Hi Dodge161, welcome to the forum. What are you finding at the hub? Broken parts, missing parts? The entire speedometer drive assembly at the hub is available for under $75.00 US. The hub part #'s for the Tengai and the "A" model are the same, meaning the hubs will interchange. Tengai has a different front brake. If you can locate a "A" model wheel, it should work for you. The brake rotor will need to be swapped.

The Tengai has better brakes than the North American "A" model. They figured we could get by with a louder horn.

Our forum requires that you hit 15 posts before it will allow you to post images. You can hit that post count easily by responding to few other threads or simply running up the post count here. I'd like to see the Tengai.

The wheel from ebay arrived today. After cleaning it up it has come up immaculate, all the parts for the speedo mech are in good condition and it has an avon tyre on it. Not bad for £99 considering a new hub alone was going to be £490.
Happy Tengai.

Glad you were able to get your hands on that wheel. The price was certainly fair. It is a fine looking Tengai you have there. I stripped all of the graphics off of my black 2009 because they were not to my liking. If I had your bike I'd leave it as is! Hope to see some ride reports and overall opinions from you soon.
