KLR Re-Cycle

The latest edition of Cycle World has a combined ad/promotion for Bike Bandit urgrading a slightly used KLR to current specs. Of course, they're using all Bike Bandit available parts...but it's interesting....and for sale.

Did they touch the doohickey?

Never mind; just disrupting things for a bit of turbulence!

(While I've upgraded mine (EM w/torsion spring), I won't argue with anyone who chooses to run stock; each one assesses risk and chooses to manage it in his own way.)

The piece appears to be a showcase for Bike Bandit, as you mention. This thrust limits the modifications deemed acceptable, and . . . might deny some upgrades of higher priority than those fulfilled by Bike Bandit's inventory, IMHO.

Yet; ain't nothin' wrong with show-and-tell from a particular vendor; long as the journalism is honestly represented as such.

I would have reservations if such an exercise was represented as an overall survey of KLR mods available.

The piece is rather an advertisement; maybe an actual advertisement, where Bike Bandit paid directly for the coverage space. Text doesn't exactly ring like an objective evaluation, but . . . doesn't have to, if Bike Bandit's paying for the coverage.

Regardless, thanks for sharing the interesting layout of accessories available from Bike Bandit, PeoriaMac!

Yes, it's pretty much a commercial for Bike Bandit! But, unlike most
moto-magazines, at least they're upgrading a used bike as opposed to the usual blather about the fastest/best for this month/rarest racereplica.
Still, they want to raffle/auction/sell it off for charity for $7,000...which strikes me as a tad high, well-farkled or not. Mac

I don't have Cycle World. Is there more to the article than that link? I would like to read about the installation of the listed products and any other previous installed or removed items.

No, what you see on the web, with the articles on engine, ergo's, braking, etc is pretty much what's in the Magazine. It's a five page glossy section, so some money was spent, and presumably they want the same thing on the web page as the magazine.
Ironically, Motorcyclist had a long-term 2008 KLR and I think they
did two "Long-term-update" short articles on it, even though they made
some serious farkles.
Sometimes I wonder if those "long term testbikes" aren't just another way for the staff to have something to ride on the weekends....

I stand corrected on the number of KLR stories Motorcyclist did....although
some are comparisons...and one includes the Marine's Diesel version....
