Swingarm play?

I blocked my new KLR so the tires are off the ground and noted there is some play in the swingarm, about 1/16" at the back of the rear wheel. Clunk clunk sided to side. My question is if this is normal and OK? 2012 brand new with only 68 miles.
I've been checking everything ouyt as best I can as this bike seems to have been kind of slapped together.
