Amsoil which grade

OK so I have been having a blast riding all the back roads with my 2007 KLR 650 as well my brother has also been having as much fun. I picked this up used and my brother had taking it for a ride and fell in love with it so he sold his crusier and bought a 2012 model(he had to one up me this season LOL). Well I relise I have put over 4000km on it in the last 2 months. I relise I'm up for a oil change and since I ran Amsoil in a couple of my Vtwins with great results, I thought I would on this bike. The riding season will start earlier and last longer now for my brother and me which is great. So with that being said I'm not sure if I should go with say a 10/30 or 10/40 or 20/50 or something else if there is out there that I don't know of. I am up here in the Great White North so it stays colder longer into late spring and then gets colder late summer/early fall. Any help will be great as well how often are you guys changing it if your running Amsoil in your bikes. Thanks for any help, John

Bike manual calls for 10/40 grade but why use amsoil? The bore (100mm) can shear oil pretty quick. I use Rotella and change every 2k miles. Seems to shift well and run great. Run a lot of higher RPMs on the slab and engine runs great. To each there own I was just curious, not knocking amsoil.

Amsoil

I run Amsoil 10-40 in my 08 and change it every 5000 miles, great oil.I work as a motorcycle mechanic.I also use it in my 1100 Moto Guzzi and BMW 1150 RT.

Thanks for the input but I like Amsoil and had great luck with it for keeping the temp down as well as smoother shifts,at least with my Vtwins so I figure I would run it in the single. John

John,
No problem running Amsoil, and I know they make a great product..

I'm in the same group as ArticKLR (Rotella/2000 mile change) but everyone is welcome to do as you wish.. It is YOUR bike..

In the end, the important thing is that the oil gets changed.. As I've said before, I think you can run olive oil in these things if you change it frequently enough..

Another Rotella guy here. This engine is more akin to a tractor than the Metric V-twins.

I'm very upset with you, young man!! You were supposed to ride the Bonzai rally and teach me the ropes on use of a Spot Tracker..

Now I'll have to learn from Brant..

You probably have the new version of Spot! I've got the original.....Are you going to use Spotwalla service?

You should plan on coming to SD to ride the TSDAT! Rokklym & Collarbone just finished it, they had fun!

Oh, and to get back on topic! I like Amsoil , but use whatever I can get in the KLR. I don't want the oil to be worth more than the bike!
