Normal RPM at highway speeds

Just got my '07 KLR and took it on the highway today for the first time. @70mph I'm turning 5k+ rpm. I do not remember if that was normal on my '09 was. Since I bought it used I was thinking the sprockets could have been changed. Anyone on a stock older KLR that can give me what stock numbers should be?

Mine shows about the same. I checked mine with a GPS roughly mounted and it showed to be pretty close to accurate. I'm ordering a mount for my GPS, and plan to recheck it.

I think my 03 turns 4500 at 70 mph and 3900 or so at 60mph. That is with a 16 tooth front sprocket which is one tooth larger than stock.

That's checked with the gps, I don't recall the numbers but when I put a new rear tire on it lowers the rpm's at a given speed enough to notice and the numbers I posted are with a well worn Gripster that will be replaced this week.

5K at 70. That's pretty reliable. Sometimes it get a bit more gumption for some reason.

Fantastic help everyone. I checked the stock parts on Ron Ayers website and it showed 15t front and 43t rear. I got a heck of a deal on this girl, skid plate, after market exhaust, looks like a new chain 15k miles $2700. I haven't found any KLR at that price before.

WTF up your tailpipe?

Maybe you could infer that I am giving feedback to the fact that my RPM's are similar on a new bike. But some people need every little thing explained to them.Knucklehead
