Lttle mishap gonna cost me

I stopped at a store yesterday and i backed my klr in a spot. I was inside shopping and a security guard came in and asked was I the one on the motorcycle?

I told him "yes I was" he said come with me. I thought to myself oh another person wanting to ask me questions about my bike like how much it costs, what size it is, is it brand new..

Not my luck, apparently for some strange circumstance my klr fell over and smacked a truck on the drivers side. It hit a 2006 Chevy 2500HD that wasnt there when I parked. Woman driver, Fishy huh?

Well with no way of proving what happened. I am liable. Scratched my klr all up, broke right mirror, broke rear right turn signal, ruined a good helmet and shield. Pushed my dash up about an inch. I was in pure horror...I may have cried a little

Put a 3 inch scratch on the truck and a little paint smudge.

Waiting for the insurance co to call

I noticed early on, and avoided my own mishap, and that leaving the KLR in gear when parked is essential. I parked in my driveway one day and left it in neutral. My KLR started rolling forward and disengaging the kick stand. Luckily I caught it on the way down.

Sorry for your mishap.

So I'm understanding that your bike fell onto it's right side??!! Sure sounds fishy. I recall you have a shortened side stand too. Hard to believe it would tip right unless the grade was really wonky but then I don't think you would have parked there.

Does the store have video of the parking lot?

It fell to the left...

Right mirror and left rear turn signal...

I think the woman hit me...

Bike shop says approx.. $1700 to repair at most

This whole deal sounds very suspicious, especially if you have the shortened side stand. The amount of damage, where the damage occurred, etc. just doesn't add up. I know there are different factors to every tipover, but mine has fallen over on its left side on a concrete slab outside my back door (before I added nerf bars) and all it did to it was scuff the end of the stock handguard a little.

If you were parked in the center of the spot, I don't even see how your KLR would have touched a vehicle in the next spot if it fell over. The amount of damage and also where it occurred (your right mirror when the bike fell to the left?) leads me to believe it was something more than your KLR just tipping over.

klr4ever brings up a good point about a possible surveillance video. I would think if the place had security guards, they probably have cameras around.

But, even if the place does have footage, I don't know what it would take to get them to cough it up. With today's legal system, it might very well cost more in the long run to attempt to uncover the truth of what happened rather than just let the insurance deal with it and move on. Sorry to hear this happened to you.

Cameras were facing left to right, I was in front of the building...

Security gaurd picked my bike up and came got me...

More and more I think about it, I think she may have clipped my front tire or something..

I didnt even know it hit the truck untill she left and came back, then said Oops I guess it did hit my truck. VERY FISHY

And I was on an incline...my bike was facing uphill....I was parked in front of a large sign..

More and more I think of it....I think the woman driver short turned and clipped my front tire... I went back to as the security guard more questions... He said the woman was not it the truck when he picked the bike up...

My all nite insurance company told me I have a $1000 deductible... That floored me.... I will have to wait till tomorrow to call my main office to be sure.. If so I screwed.... I aint got a grand...

This is set up as a private picture, so I can't see it.

KLRs don't just fall down. Makes me mad that this lady would do this to you.

Whenever possible I like to park far out in the parking lot. I also make a habit of parking slightly to the right, so the bike is more centered when on the sidestand.

I feel for you, and best of luck.

EDIT: Another tip, I also like to park next to light poles like in wallmart. At night it makes my bike more visible so people don't hit me. Additionally, there is a big concrete obstacle that will help people stay away from my bike.
