Puncture in sidewall

Hey guys. I just put new tire on yesterday and on the first ride I get a nail in the sidewall. Needless to say it shredded the tube. Being that the tire has a tube do I need to worry about the tire or is it ok to just replace the tube and ride?

"It should go without saying, but weíll say it anyway: if the puncture is in the sidewall of the tire, there is no way to repair it safely, whether tube-type or tubeless. Youíll need to get a new tire."

That's from an article I had saved for some reason. For what it's worth, that's David Hough's opinion. I agree with him.

I'm with planalp on this one, any damage to the sidewall of a tire and I would replace it.

After taking the tire off it's more like a gash. This tires done. Luckily I still have my old one to get me by for a few days.

Yup, I always keep my still serviceable tires for emergency spares. Hoping the ruined tire wasn't a really pricey one like an Avon or something.

Nope a $50 shinko 244. However the only place open on Sunday's that sold tubes was the Harley dealer. I'm pretty sure I paid the Harley tax for a rebranded Dunlop tube. Doh!

But on the bright side the chrome valve stem will make it go faster.

Did you go with one of the little chrome skull valve stem caps?
