Ouch! I checked out your webpage... Heck, for all the stuff your going to need you might be farther ahead to just keep an eye peeled for a complete engine in good shape and just swap it out. I'm guessing that unless you can get a dynamite deal on all the parts you need, it will cost that much or more to fix your existing engine

Revision on my part, I thought the cylinder was pooched as well... Is it still usable? If the cylinder is still usable with a bore then it might be more economically feasible to fix your existing engine. My bad, I thought the entire top end was toasted.

I gotta say though, that's one of the worst fried heads I've ever seen! Hopefully someone has the parts to help you out. There was a head with matching cam caps (you need the matching ones because they are machined together) on ebay for $150 a week or so ago. That's the cheapest I've ever seen for the complete head.

Welcome to the forum and I wish you the best of luck on your rebuild.

08 cylinder head

Thanks for the post 650stew. There is one on eBay at now for $100 bucks but they only ship to the U.S. it is not complete though. The cylinder looks good but the piston is nfg. Thinking about the 685kit. Need to do more research though.

I'm guessing the one for $150 got snapped up pretty quick! The 685 route is how I would go as well. For some reason when I read your original headline I thought you also needed the cylinder, but I guess that's just how the forum truncates it. Saves you a couple of hundred bucks right there!

I read about your trip on your webpage, sorry to see it get cut short due to mechanical problems . Sounds like an awesome trip as well!

Spring is a long long way off......almost time to put the old girl away and strip her down. The 685 is a perfect base to build from, then think stage II head or even at least the larger valves IF you don't port the head. The difference is well worth it. Then if you are adventurous...think flatslide carb. IF I ride it normally, the mileages aren't that far from the 50MPG range....but it is seriously hard NOT to twist the wrist when you have so much to show off with....lol.

I haven't seen the damaged engine you have....but almost everything is rebuildable....it's self therpy(????) for us seriously sick modders....almost the best time of the year!

Enjoy the build.....

That was the problem. Sorry to hear about your engine. I, too have an '08, and it, too consumes a lot of oil. I put about 1/2 quart in every fill up. Carry a quart with me wherever I go!
