Pull over and let them by. It's better that they're in front of you than behind you.

By pulling over and letting them by you send a positive message. By holding them back you risk rage.

In my vehicle, I'm a dick. If they're really riding close behind me, I'll suddenly swerve violently to the side like I just saw something laying in the road directly in front of me and am making a frantic attempt to avoid "it." They inevitably freak out and slam on their brakes.

If I'm on the KLR, I do what Tom Schmitz recommended. It's usually pretty easy to find enough room to move over to the right and wave them on by.

I don't let people tailgate me.

Good point.
We choose who we ride with and which part of the lane. I don't ride with stupid people who want to tail-gate me, ride beside me, and especially ones that want to half-way pass me and stick me in their blind-spot.

On my klr I slow down when no one is coming so they will pass. In my car or pickup I'm like Planalp, try to make their life hell.

if i'm in my pick up and i cant see their headlights over my tailgate i'll tap the pedal a couple times to flash the brake lights, if that doesn't work i start gradually slowing down. they almost always back off immediately after the light flashes.

on my bike, i do the same brake light flashes but if that doesn't work, i'll take a short detour around the block. on the bike its not worth the risk of them actually having not seen you and driving right into you.

I'm just a dick! I installed tractor trailer rectangular led tail lights to my pannier racks and they have their own modulator system that copies the flashing rear brake like on the bike. If someone is getting too close for my comfort I hit the brake light, at night it is seriously bright with all 3 leds flashing. They either get the message then or I slow down to well below the speed limit and they are either forced to back off or pass me. 99% of the time they back off. I'm always aggressive to people who get too close to me after being rearended in my Honda that ruined my neck and working career. If I think my life is in danger then I will back off, but until that looks possible I hold my ground.

Like I said I am a DICK!

I think I mentioned this. But it is worth two mentions. I was driving a few months back and some asshole was tailgating me, but it was on a stretch of freeway where people drive like complete maniacs (680). Anyway, I didn't even tap my brakes, just took my foot off the gas. Dropped a few MPG. Then the guy passed me and, while screaming, TRIED to sideswipe me. Like almost all the way into my lane. Thank god there wasn't a car to my right cause I didn't even have time to look.

PEOPLE ARE CRAZY. Don't be passive aggressive on the roads.
