Just went past 500 miles

I was worried that my bike was underpowered because staying under 4000 rpm does not get you into the meat of the powerband. This bike has plenty of power and it was hidden between 4000 and 6000 rpm. What a wonderful bike we have. Lots of smiles today and 82 miles

The breakin is a bummer for sure. Just wait until you can open it up.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Here is the best way to break in the engine...
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

You will never seal the rings properly with a low rpm break in.

So according to the article I have missed the window for break in? Not being a smart a**, am just curious. I always broke my cars in that way, just never had a new motorcycle before and being older now, I tend to be more cautious with things.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't..

My old 2000 BMW R1100R ate a bit of oil until I took it to a track day at 4000 miles on the clock.. Bumping the rev limiter several times in every lap, for several laps, and it quit burning oil shortly thereafter..

NOTE: KLR's don't have rev limiters!!
Just wanted to make sure someone doesn't take a KLR out and try to find the rev limiter.

Anyway, my KLR has consumed a bit of oil since I got it at 1300 miles. It sucks down about 4-5 oz. every 1000 miles.. I can gladly live with that.. I just keep an eye on it, and top it off before longer rides.

Interesting note on the oil issue. I was going to ride mine this morning, added some air to the forks, and just was kinda doing a check over for any loose bolts, and noticed I didn't see any oil in the oil window. After I tilted it over to the right, then back to center, some showed up at the very bottom line. Took about 1/3 of a quart? to refill. At anyrate, this afternoon's ride saw some much higher rpm's than 4000. Gonna ride it like it is supposed to be ridden, and yep, I just can't seem to wipe that smile off now, especially after I felt the torque and power in the upper RPM's......wooo hoooo....am ready for some riding this weekend.
