Looking At A 1998 650 With 1600 Miles..

Hey all, great forum! Never thought I would be interested in a KLR, but I have a lot of friends who have convinced me otherwise. I have found a '98 with approximately 1600 mile, aftermarket dash...also has the original that goes with it, new plastics, custom sticker kit. I guess the owner had several bikes and the bike just didn't get ridden that much. Starts right up, sounds great...but almost has a "chirping" sound...kinda like a VW. Not that familiar with them, so I really don't know if that's an issue. He's asking $2500..I know I can get it for at least $2k....worth going after? Tried to post a link to the picture, but I don't have enough posts...sorry!

Basically, I'd suggest, if you want the bike; go ahead!

Economically, I'd think a 15-year-old (16 model years old) KLR650 would have to be in museum-ready condition, laden with valuable farkles (accessories), to command such a price.

But, hey--we're only talking a few hundred dollars! You could get your money's worth in fun!

A modest proposal: Look up that bike in Kelley Blue Book, http://www.kbb.com . The information isn't absolute, but--may give you some bargaining ammunition.

Good luck!

KBB says, hereabouts, retailed from a dealer in excellent condition: $ 1805; trade-in: $ 1185. Certainly, YMMV (your mileage may vary)!

I always check KBB before I start looking. I figured the low mileage may be worth the couple hundred difference. If he would go $1500, I would jump on it. I'll hang back and let him sit on the bike a little before I start negotiating. He's not able to ride anymore, just wants to get rid of it...thanks for the input!
