Oil Analysis

Which are the 2 most used oil analysis companies, by the members of this site?
How much does each company charge?
What is their turn-around time?
Date that you last used them?

May I ask for the help of Tom Schmitz and one other moderator of Toms choice? Who might submit the samples, at my expense of course, receive the reports, post the results?

In the interest of KLR science. I think I ought to have oil analysis performed on the 5000 mile, well used 10W40. Still in the bike.

PD-

I'm not a moderator here, just some guy with his name in hot pink and I dunno why.

My 2 cents is that you're a straightforward and honest guy. If you post up the results of an oil analysis I'd believe it was a true report. I don't think you need a go between for the analysis. I'm pretty sure the rest of the folks here feel the same way.

What I would find interesting is a sample of new oil, a 2,500 mile sample, and a 5,000 miles sample. That's a lot of your money, though.

Regards,

Tom

Hello pdwestman!

I changed the title name for you. It would be interesting to see the results of the analysis, I've never seen engine oil turn black as quickly as it does in my KLR! The testing is pricey though, is it not?

650Stew,
Thanks for the TITLE change.
I don't have a clue about the analysis price tag, yet! I'm asking?

I do not have a digital camera, nor a smart phone, nor a scanner for the report.
Nor do I know how to cut, paste or transfer a document from an e-mail. I've caused computer problems, trying to use the computer. I'm a mechanic, give me metal tools and metal parts. Seriously folks!

Apparently, NO ONE ELSE IN Fremont County, Wyoming is even on this forum!

And I think it would be interesting to have a non-biased moderator to examine (photograph) the Motion Pro OIL FILTER MAGNET and the oil filter media and the back-side/inside of the filter end cap, where the magnet MIGHT pickup particulate passing thru the media, for all to see, IF I'VE SCREWED-UP.
I've NEVER had any kind of magnet in this engine before.
The oil SCREEN was very clean, when I did water pump seals / kickstart kit, this past winter, IN THE MIDDLE (justjeff) of all my testing. Actually it was just before I started MODIFYING.

I've had the filter COVER off numerous times, to change the orifice size, but have NOT even touched the magnet nor the filter in just over 4900 miles.

And if ONE ANALYSIS is sufficient, you guys PICK IT.

650Stew,PM me, if you would volunteer?

Go to "Bob is the Oil Guy forum" (here). Lots of info on oil analysis.

Check with a local trucking company or service center. Over the road trucks are checked as a normal precaution. You should be able to prepurchase a container with postage included. A question sheet will be inclosed asking what type of engine. They will send a report back usually within a week. From what I remember it wasn't all that expensive.
