Which are the 2 most used oil analysis companies, by the members of this site?
How much does each company charge?
What is their turn-around time?
Date that you last used them?

May I ask for the help of Tom Schmitz and one other moderator of Toms choice? Who might submit the samples, at my expense of course, receive the reports, post the results?

In the interest of KLR science. I think I ought to have oil analysis performed on the 5000 mile, well used 10W40. Still in the bike.

PD-

I'm not a moderator here, just some guy with his name in hot pink and I dunno why.

My 2 cents is that you're a straightforward and honest guy. If you post up the results of an oil analysis I'd believe it was a true report. I don't think you need a go between for the analysis. I'm pretty sure the rest of the folks here feel the same way.

What I would find interesting is a sample of new oil, a 2,500 mile sample, and a 5,000 miles sample. That's a lot of your money, though.

Regards,

Tom

650Stew,
Thanks for the TITLE change.
I don't have a clue about the analysis price tag, yet! I'm asking?

I do not have a digital camera, nor a smart phone, nor a scanner for the report.
Nor do I know how to cut, paste or transfer a document from an e-mail. I've caused computer problems, trying to use the computer. I'm a mechanic, give me metal tools and metal parts. Seriously folks!

Apparently, NO ONE ELSE IN Fremont County, Wyoming is even on this forum!

And I think it would be interesting to have a non-biased moderator to examine (photograph) the Motion Pro OIL FILTER MAGNET and the oil filter media and the back-side/inside of the filter end cap, where the magnet MIGHT pickup particulate passing thru the media, for all to see, IF I'VE SCREWED-UP.
I've NEVER had any kind of magnet in this engine before.
The oil SCREEN was very clean, when I did water pump seals / kickstart kit, this past winter, IN THE MIDDLE (justjeff) of all my testing. Actually it was just before I started MODIFYING.

I've had the filter COVER off numerous times, to change the orifice size, but have NOT even touched the magnet nor the filter in just over 4900 miles.

And if ONE ANALYSIS is sufficient, you guys PICK IT.

650Stew,PM me, if you would volunteer?

Check with a local trucking company or service center. Over the road trucks are checked as a normal precaution. You should be able to prepurchase a container with postage included. A question sheet will be inclosed asking what type of engine. They will send a report back usually within a week. From what I remember it wasn't all that expensive.

Mobil Oil Company does one that we use in the oil & gas exploration & production industry that is about the best aro based on our experience to determine wear on metal to metal contact in all of our sever use engines mostly super charged twin turbo diesel generators power plants & main drive & pump engines & they are pretty darn serious about to make & determine the amount of wear & what it is that’s wearing internally on these complex & very costly engine types ? They do it regularly & constantly on a monthly basis ! They are pretty detailed on the information they give ! This service use to be available for $35 dollars via your local Autozone & took about 2-weeks to receive a complete & detailed printed laboratory result of your sample ! It was similar in the criteria wee used in the oil & gas industry! However I intend to post when completed here on my 2007 Kawasaki KLR 650 with two different type of oil filters ! The stock Kawasaki OEM factory oil & paper filter & the Scotts Performance Stainless filter & factory Kawasaki oil. Both changed at regular OEM change intervals or mileages! I will post it here to see if there truly is a difference , that is plainly declared by Scotts Performance claims of superior filtering characteristics versus paper elements? We shall see? I went to this type & brand filter based solely on their claims of better & more consistent flow characteristics versus stock setup ? I do not make the claim but hope that the flow is better than the original because I’ve read maybe one too many stories of oiling limitations of the cams on the KLR ? I don’t know how to even start to prove that claim however I can thru oil analysis testing determine somewhat if the filters do in fact filter better ? By the size of the contamination particles in the oil ? Only time & the tests will confirm this or deny it ? We shall see, I will post it here for all the folks to see on this thread under oil analysis! my intention is not to be right or wrong but to just state the facts & share them ? two things are important to me oil & air filtering & cooling of the engine to try at least to get the longest life & performance, with in reason on my engines ! Isn’t that what we all want but to go further & the longest we can go without problems we could have prevented ! I’m not a know it all when it comes to the KLR now if we were talking about the BMW GS series or the Moto-Guzzi, Quota‘s I might have an edge up on some folks as I’ve owned them most of my life & been many many miles on those bikes ! However they need or required very little modification to be at the optimum level compared to the KLR ? It seems with the Doo-Hickee & the Thermostat-Bob #1& #2, & Clutch Lever extension & the endless other modifications that it makes a fellow wonder just what to fix that really needs a fixing ???
i just wanted to Thank each & every one of you folks for your contributions to help a man out who knows nothing about the brand but wants too learn what really needs fixing & what doesn’t so we can just ride & enjoy these wonderful machines !
Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas !
Sincerely & Respectfully !
