Few Mods this AM

Hey everyone, been reading on some of the safety switch bypass mods, so decided to do the clutch and kickstand bypasses this morning. Was very easy. But for the kickstand I did something a lil different. Instead of cutting the wires and or soldering them or using a jumper, I thought why not just disconnect the cable that comes from the kickstand up to the switch? Very easy and very easy to replace if needed. If there is an issue doing it this way, please someone let me know. In my mind, if the switch isn't getting used, it shouldn't go bad. I also did the carb air mixture mod. For this I used a really small drill bit and instead of trying to use a larger bit to get the plug to spin out, I took a 90 degree mechanics pick and simply pulled the plug out. That way there isn't a chance of messing up the mixture screw. I turned the screw all the way in. From the factory it was out 1 1/2 turns. From threads on this board and on some other internet sites, I turned the mixture screw back out 2 1/2 turns. I also removed the large rubber boot on the left side of the air box allowing a lil bit more air to enter. Soon as I get a jigsaw, I am going to do the "L" opening mod ontop of the air box, but wanted to know if I would need to jet the carb after doing that, or if the current setting would work? I took some pics of the Carb plug and then of the cable I removed for the kickstand. Input always welcome.

Thanks
DWayne

Excellent post, pics and all, cant go wrong. Im in the process of putting a 04 KLR650 into a buggy and picked it up in only the frame with most wiring disconected so to be able to see where some items started is a great help!

Go to this link and click on the 'Electrical System' link at the top, then scroll down a bit once it redirects you and you can get a print out of the electrical system blue print:

funny, now that I have done the Doohicky and the suspension was gearing up to do the same thing.

Still want a hydraulic clutch...but I have been spending so much money on the KLR and my Harley my wife would freakin kill me.

The stimulus check is GONE and I have two kids - so $1200! My stimulus was very limited to Motorcycle folks...oh well.
