What's that little pump on the right side of the '08?

I took my first really good look at an '08 KLR650 today and saw a little pump (?) on the right side of the engine up high near the horn. Since the engine is basically the same as any other KLR, I figured it can't be the water pump, so what is it? You can see it if you look through the vent in the right fairing. It's got a couple of rubber hoses coming out of it.
Could it be a new location for the thermostat? It was round.
It wasn't fastened to the engine case, but remote with at least two hoses coming out of it.

The more I think about it, the more I think that might be what it was.

I am open to thinking it is the thermostat, but I could not see it listed in the parts diagram ... I didn't look very thoroughly, but it was listed under the water pump, radiator, or even the engine block diagrams. I could not see it listed under the body panels either ... not sure where to look.

It makes sense that it's the thermostat. It's round, has two hoses coming out of it, and someone heard that Kawi was going to relocate it.

Veeeeery interesting.
According to the parts fiche the thermostat is still in the cylinder head. Where do the hoses attached to the part go??

Pretty dinky housing to be a thermostat. I'd guess an EGR valve, since the hose clamps indicate a low-pressure system. Where do the hoses go?
Edit: Oops...didn't mean EGR valve, but PCV.

A customer rode his new 08 to my shop and I looked at it. Both rubber hoses turn into metal hoses and they both run back over top of the front of the valve cover. I could not see where they run from there because of the ridiculously big radiator shrouds.
My guess is that it is emissions related
