Rear shock preload on an 08 KLR

I took a look at the 08 KLR's and I'm one of those who likes them but I am wondering how to preload the rear end when you pack a bunch of gear on the back. I'm looking to buy a bike I can load my gear on the back of (bags, camping gear etc) and be able to easily preload the bike when the gear is on and then back off the preload when I arrive and unpack my gear. Does anyone know if the 08 KLR's coil over requires you to use a spanner to preload the lock ring on the rear spring, or is it easier than that?

I really like he fancy preload assembly on the v-strom and BMW f650's and I'm hoping the KLR has something similar.

I do believe it is identcial to all it's peers, you use either a 10mm or 12mm socket and ratchet in place of a spanner. Very easy to do. Also on the right side you should be able to adjust the rebound rate with a thumb dial. They come from the factory set at 1 on both the spring and rebound. The more weight you have the higher you go on the numbers. I have my spring set on 3 and rebound on 2, and trust me, my bike is carrying a "heavy" weight, me!

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.
