Question Ignition Bypass

I'm in Vladivostok and Vlad Air have lost my panniers which I brought across with me to attach to the bikes which a shipped a few months back. The panniers contained the keys to the bikes I shipped and now I'm stuck in Vlad with no keys, no kawasaki shops and no clue how to either pull the barrell out so I can get it to a lock smith or bypass the ignition switch all together.

Any idea please. Things are looking a little desperate to say the least

you have to have a key to put gas in to, so hotwiring might not help much. sorry.

Are the bars in the locked left position?

If the bars are free, you can try push starting it. Or get it to a big hill and coast her down to build up some speed. The gas cap lock can easily be busted from what I heard some time ago, but can't remember how it was done. Probably a big flat screw driver, but I don't know.

I'd say, contact any kawa dealer, give them the vin number and have them contact whoever to get new keys made and shipped to you. You won't always have a big hill to get it rolling fast enough.

If you can get the barrel out or maybe the helmet lock barrel and get the keycode, you can use any of these blanks and have a locksmith make a new key.

Fixed the problem

Hi guys,

Thanks for your advice. I pulled the helmet lock off and got a key cut by a local locksmith. Strangely it fits the helmet lock and fuel cap but won't work on the ignition. I was goignt o then pull the ignition barrel out but its fixed in like Fort Knox. Fortunately the steering lock wasn't engaged so I managed to hot wire the bike instead.

This turned out to be easier then I thought. If you pull the headlight fairing off you find five electrical plugs/connections. The centre one runs directly to the ignition barrel. By cutting and joining the red and white wires you turn the ignition on. So I don't have to get in behind the cowling every time I need ot turn it on or off I am extending theses wires and installing a switch behind the RHS Radiator cover.

It's not the most graceful solution but it'll do until I get home from Russia back to Australia.
