100% better new KLR

I have a '05 KLR650 with 22k miles on it that is an amazing bike. I ride this bike aggressively mainly on the street. I also am an advanced rider on the track with 5 years of track experience on a Triumph Daytona 955i. It is a track bike only and my KLR is the only bike I ride on the street.

Last week a friend of mine (on a '06 KLR) and myself rode on our favorite back roads with 5 other advanced track day guys, all on 1000cc sportbikes, leathered out, the whole works. (Two 1098's, 999, R1, K1200, GS1050) These were all good sensible riders. Nice guys. My God, when they saw our two freaking KLR's stuck to them like glue, with our 'Knobblies', the pace just got faster and faster. Anyway, the $5000 KLR's were always right there. It always amazes me how much fun I have riding the living daylights out of a 40hp motorcycle to the limit. Something that I very rarely am able to do with my Daytona 955i even on the track!

Two days later we test rode a new KLR. It is 100% better. More refined, more power, better brakes, smoother, and the suspension rocks. It feels just as tall as my Ď 05 and it is solid. (Iím 5:7Ē 150LBS) It falls into a turn like a sportbike. In fact, as I went into an off exit I literally touched the right footpeg 'feeler' without even realizing how low I was turning. And that was on tires that were brand new not even scuffed in.

Anyway sorry for the long post, like everyone here, I'm all eat up with these KLR's and will go back and buy that new '08. (It's the least I can do, since I scuffed up the footpeg.)

Oh, yea, and it is better looking.......maybe I won't feel so insecure riding with those beautiful Ducati's!

I agree. These KLR's are a blast. I've owned eight different bikes including a 400 Maico motocrosser and a hopped up 1200 Sportster and this KLR is way more fun.

I couldn't agree more. I never expected to have so much fun with this thing! While I can't compare my '08 to the first gen KLRs, I can say this, THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK. My KLR can carve corners just as well as any modern supersport I've been on. In fact, I feel more confident in the corners than many sport bikes I've ridden! The suspension is bang on and will hold a line well. This thing may not have much power (in comparison), but I can really use all that it has! What also gets me is that I'm getting alot of people gawking at my bike... amazed at its good looks! The green one of course I'm still keeping the revs under 4500 rpm until breakin is over... which is really limiting my ability to test its limits. I can't wait until WOT and redline!!! Oh, and brakes are brilliant!Cheers.
