KLR Depreciation (somewhat long)

I have made some effort to sell an '02 KLR I've owned since 10/05. It's purchase was sort of a testing the waters thing, my kid had turned 16 and was riding my DRz400 more than 'his' KL250. Turns out I appreciated the virtues of the 650 and looked for a nicer looking one than the faded green/silver '02. Found a red '05 in June last year with some mods that was reasonable and purchased it, transferred the few accessories I had added to the '02 to it and began offering the '02 for sale.
Was I unreasonable to expect $24-26 hundred for the bike? I'm in a town of 11,000 so I wasn't terrible suprised to find little local intrest. Listed it in the AR Gazette for a wider market. Didn't hit the 10 call/1 show standard. It's been on a few KLR friendly classified websites.
It's 7/07. I still have it. Someone here suggested I would get some action if I listed it for $1000.
I just changed oil in it, it had 550 miles in 13 months (I have 7 bikes with plates, I'm somewhat of a bike whore I guess but I have inside storage for them. All are rode at least once/month).
Cut to the chase. The '02 (and the '05) cost me $70/year for insurance and plates. What will an '02 in good condition with 13k or so miles be worth in 2012 or so? It has to bottom out sooner or later in depreciation and start gaining in value.
Given my position, what would you do with the '02?
Jim

Put it on ADV, or graigs list, it won't last too long there. For 25 it should have low miles and in decent shape.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

I suggested the $1,000, but was kidding. People will always want something for nothing, it's human nature. Most would laugh and probably say I paid way too much for my 06' KDX 200, but it's a matter of riding vs waiting around for some stupid deal that will never come along. Considering this KDX200 only had 50 miles on it, had the standard mods already done including aftermarket pipe and silencer, was on the way to our main riding area 80 miles away, and the fact the guy used to own a MC dealership and setup the bike right.... well, it was worth $1,000 under stock price. Also, considering they don't make the KDX200 anymore, the 06 is the last year they were made. Everybody knows the KDX200 for it's rock solid engine and go anywhere ability, just like the KLR. I don't get a lot of deals on MC's around here, it's nowhereville when it comes to offroad areas, so not a lot of bikes around.

I think the KLR.1's will start holding their value now. At least if we all stick together and not cave to the beggers. It's simple supply and demand... the KLR.2 is quite a different bike! If they want a KLR.1, they better get one very very soon if they want a new one, that's if they aren't all gone already. Once gone.... well.... start beggin!!
