KLR prices..?

hey everyone. this is my first post and i have a couple questions.. so here is my situation. i was originaly looking of a new XR650L so i can commute 50mi a day and goof off on the weekends. i went to the dealer and got a quote of $5,699 OTD.. not to bad if you ask me but then he says, "ive also got this 07 KLR 650 that ill sell you for $4,799 OTD" so now im thinking to myself holy crap thats a deal.. what do you guys think? (yes i know you are biased towards the KLX cuz this is the KLX forum) but i guess what im realy asking is if you had your choice and these were the prices that were infront of you what would you do? or would you get an 08 KLR for $5,899 ??

ive always liked honda but the KLR is very comfy. it just seems like the price is too cheap for the bike to be anygood?? thanks for any input.

My "new" 07 was about 4900 OTD. Grab it and go have a blast. There is way too much after market stuff for this bike and it has proven itself dependable and tough for over 20 years to pass it up.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

One of my co-workers bought a NEW 07' for $4200, plus prep and tax.

Leftovers are going for minimal dollars since the 08's came out..

You can do better..

Also, as a former XR650L owner, there's a slight difference between the two bikes, and that depends on how much you like to visit gas stations.

With the XR650L, your 100 mile commute will require fuel twice a day. With mine, if I wasn't looking for fuel at 90 miles on the tank, I was walking at 100 miles.

The 6+ gallon tank on the KLR would be all I'd need for that decision.

(the 100 mile thing is guessing you have a 50 mile each way commute, by the way)

I just picked up a 07 KLR 650 for $4990 OTD (tax, license, etc) It had 1.4 miles on it. I agree with the earlier comment about dealers letting them go for less since te 08's are arriving (I sat on the 08 and it was nice, but I've had my heart set on a 07 for quite some time)
Gas mileage is great and the big tank is a plus, especially if you are commuting 50 miles.
Get one and go, but see if you can talk the dealer down a bit...

Don't forget: Air cooled vs. liquid cooled. Unless I'm jumping in a competition, I'd go for the liquid cooled motor.

$4200 is pretty good, but i think that would end up being pretty close to the $4799 that i got quoted out the door. maby im wrong cuz i havent bought a brand new motorcycle since 1998. i think im going to go have another look at them again today. they have one red one and one black one left and that black one is looking pretty good to me.. plus i think that my fiance would like riding on the back of the KLR better than the XL.. anybody have any girlfriends of wifes complaining about the comfort of riding on the back??

Hee Hee.. Mine won't ride on my KLR, but she'll fall asleep on the back of my Gold Wing..

My KLR's been destined as a solo bike.

Gotta go black dude! I love mine!..I am going to have the gas tank painted black this winter. The silver tank is ok, but I think it will look much better completely blacked out. Can't say the KLR is a good bike to double up on, but it can be done for short distances, I couldn't handle two on it for a long trip.
