So I broke down and spent a fistful of dollars for some Gaerne Balance Oiled boots.
Price was high but it was the same as all are advertising.
Bought from Adventure Designs.
I have a pair of Diadora Brown old school looking boots for the last 10-15yrs and they are still in good condition, my problem was, on my BMW R100GS, the little decoration on the shine guards would hit the carbs and I could not use them on that bike at all. So I was in the market for a good boot but didn't want to spend a fortune.
The Gaerne boot is old school brown just like my Diadoras, also made in Italy just like my Diadoras, and while the price was more than I wanted to spend the reviews were outstanding.
My hit list was, must look normal not storm trooper, not too high on the calf but afford enough shine protection from those protruding Beemer heads and carbs in case of sudden stop, and most important, be a hike-able all day, all in one boot for riding on/off-road, camping, hiking and cruising around town.
So first impressions:
As all the reviews said, out of the box they felt broke in and comfortable. They look cool and my jeans fit right over the shine guard. I looked at several other boots all of which were too high, to rigid, too black and storm trooper like, to much plastic, leather felt plastic, or just plain uncomfortable to walk in.
I have only ridden on them today about 50miles but wore them all day at work walking around and in the airplane for a few hours. I have to say, they are really comfortable for a motorcycle boot.
The quality seems great all the way around buckles to soles, and I think these should last 10yrs or more with regular oiling and care and since the soles are resole-able maybe for life.
In the end I did spend +$350 on them which is unusual for me to do on things but so far I am very happy and am looking at it as a long term investment.
Anybody else have thoughts on these
