Talking 1st Ride on new to me KLR650

KLR must mean KiLleR Ride
It is a chile pepper red '08 with only 2100 miles on it. First ride out on Omak Mountain with my step son on his Husky250 full race dirt bike. Busted upwards of 50 miles of assorted dirt roads, old ragged logging roads and even several bygone trails. It has been 20 years since I did much of anything offroad and it was awesome to follow an expert to start bringing back the memory, moves, and techniques involved with mountain trail busting. I had just an awesome time. Nearly dumped it a dozen times while riding over downed trees, crossing wallowed out road washouts, and rock picking through trails. I am really amazed with the ability of the KLR, but I was constantly hunting for a lower gear. I rode it about 100 miles on the freeway and thought it performed extreemly well.
I think I'm gonna love this ride.
The KLR was set up with Lowering bars in the back, and being 6'1" I need to get it back to stock height. Anybody have a set of stock rear bars to offer/sell?
Hope others got a chance to get a ride in over the weekend.
See Ya

At 6'1" you might be further ahead with a set of Eagle Mike raising links, especially if you're 200lbs +. Raising links make the rear suspension stiffer with only a very slight raise in height compared to stock.

Also, if you think you want a lower gear, maybe your bike has had the stock 15 tooth front sprocket swapped for a 16? This is a common mod to drop RPM on the highway. For rock crawling you want the 15 or maybe even a 14.

CHECK YOUR OIL OFTEN. Many '08s have a rep for oil consumption at high RPM.

Hey Harvey, congrats on the new bike. Sounds like you took it for a real "Trial by Fire!" Glad it passed the test.
One other thing you may need if you return it to stock height (or above) is a new kickstand. The one you have now may prove to be too short.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm 6' 1" and 220lbs.
The Dog Bones I have are 5 3/4" center to center. Are they stock?
The kick stand I have is 11 1/2" long, is it stock or shorter than stock?

Removed the nice corbin seat used for lowering several inches and replaced with the stock block bench seat. Gave me more height, but it ain't much for comfort.

I also cranked up the monoshock as far as it would go (5).

Tires are k750 Knobby Dunlop - 2,000 miles.

These KLR's really are the "Jeep" of motorcycles.
