US to Canada Purchase

2008 KLR 5200 us at time of purchase 5000 canadian no tax on US side as Im a non resident

Paperwork at border..needed..recall clearance letter from dealer..bill of sale..certificate of origin..and complete form one at customs.

Then email form one information to RIV and pay 200 fee receive another form via email..then take the bike to canadian tire for federal inspection..part of 200 fee..then take completed paperwork to license office pay pst and change over fees..simple and saved a few bucks.

Oh one thing..if you plan on going back to US with the bike ..take a photo copy of the certificate of origin to the US customs and wait 72 hours..before bringing the bike out of the US..I live on the border so it was easy..you can also fax it..but still wait the 72 hours..if you dont do this and re enter the US and get pulled in at customs or by the police..and they run the serial number good buy bike and hello 500. fine and its a bad day. This must be done before importing the bike..

Sounds like it's easier than the other direction.
I was working in Burlington, ON and I stopped at the BMW shop in Oakville to look at bikes. The guy said that used bike purchases from Canada to the US were easy, but new bikes were very difficult..

This was also back when the Loonie was worth around $.60 USD.. Times have changed, and Canada isn't the bargain that it used to be for those of us in the US.

I plan on doing another ride around Lake Superior this next summer, and I'm saving my $$$ for fuel, now.. (Oh, and beer, too)

Savings

Yes going from Canada to Us with bike may be a different thing...I saved about 1500 on a brand new KLR..better in my pocket than the local dealer. Mind you I like to purchase local..and support the dealer but..tell me they dont shop in the US...now I can farkle things up. It seems the US and Canada really like China...they can import anything..toxic..and the little guy like us has to play by a different set of rules.
